It would be nice to know whether the originators of threads like this have found whatever it is they want.

I haven't yet. Actually, I am in a relationship, but he has no idea how to show affection and, I guess, thinks I should always be the first one to say affectionate things. I started out giving it everything I had, hoping he would become comfortable enough to open up San say/do sweet things, but I guess the walls he has built are so thick that he may never get to that point. Rather than try to change him, I am trying to decide if I have enough affection to carry us both. Quite frankly, I am starving to death emotionally. I have stopped doing the little things like sweet notes (which he says he likes) and texts. Even a dog who repeatedly goes to his master for a pat on the head will eventually stop when he realizes he is not going to receive any. People tend to give to a relationship what they want out of it. Yes, I have talked to him about this and expressed my need for return of affection. I'm tired of saying I love you first all the time so I have pretty much stopped. I know this is more like a novel and I apologize, but I've got to get it off my chest.

Kitty, lots of men either find it difficult with spontaneous declarations of love or it just never occurs to them (such men think,"well, she knows how I feel about her"). The often difficult trick is to discover whether a man is one of these or if he's really not interested.
Let's face it, this can be one of those things that make men and women different. Two girls I know have drifted into same-sex relationships over this very issue.
I guess I'm not being very helpful, but I do believe sometimes you either have to accept a man is like this or, however reluctantly, reject him and seek another.
